Army expedition notebook, 1876-1877.

Dr. McGillycuddy's notebook records the 1876-77 United States Army expedition to Yellowstone and Big Horn river valleys. The manuscript also includes notes kept by his wife Julia (Fanny) while with the army on an expedition to the Black Hills and at Camp Robinson 1876-77. Accompanied by a typed transcript.

Surgeon, topographical engineer, and Pine Ridge Indian agent. Michigan born Valentine McGillycuddy practiced medicine there briefly before serving as a topographical engineer and surgeon for the U.S. Lake Survey under Comstock, the 1874 U.S. Boundary Survey, and the 1875 Walter P.
